Warhammer Underworlds – Wintermaw Boxset Review

Warhammer Underworlds logo

The current cycle for seasons in Warhammer Underworlds is a boxset (with two Warbands and two Universal Rivals Decks) followed by individual releases for two further Warbands and two further Rivals decks. For a total of four warbands and four universal decks in a season. So we start a new season with the release of Wintermaw!

What’s really interesting is this is the first box set I’ve bought since Games Workshop switched from shrink-wrapping all the content of their boxes.

The boards and tokens are boxed separately within the box to keep them safe and there’s also a smaller branded box with the four decks. I think this is a really positive change – firstly they’re recyclable but the cards seem to be better protected from the sharper bits of the minis on the sprues – an issue I’ve had with quite a few of these box sets previously so a really positive change! Speaking of those minis…

The tokens and boards are all very pretty – I really love the direction of the art in both this and Deathgorge. The icy theme looms great on the boards in particular.

Included alongside rivals decks for the two Warbands are the Rimewyrm’s Bite and Hungering Parasite Decks. Each tapping into a different great sci-fi franchise – Icy Sandworms and The Thing but I’ll cover those in more detail in a future post.
