Warhammer 40,000 Tacticus Diary: A Week (and a bit) in Tacticus 7th – 15th February

My Tacticus Diary is a weekly feature, reflecting on what I’ve been doing in Tacticus, achievements met and a few other bits and bobs that might have popped up! This is not the first Tacticus Diary and it will not be the last, you can find the others here.

I have done this one a little later than normal though and we have slightly more than a week to cover just so I can reset the first day of the diary to a Monday which seems a better fit against the Tacticus events calendar which often starts on a Sunday! We’ve also got a bumper session this time as we’ve got a bit of a debrief on the The Lucius Plan and a look at what the next plan is!

Opening Shot

  • You’ll remember that the last Tacticus Diary fell just before the end of the Perfection Personified event and that with only a few tokens left to accrue I was nearing the end of my scoring potential with the strength of my teams but still short of the last crate needed to unlock Lucius. Well the great news is that with a concerted effort, I managed to get that crate and get Lucius unlocked! Really was a genuine sense of achievement on this one as he’s one of my favourite characters in Warhammer 40,000 and it’s taken some work to get to a place where unlocking him was possible on the second event!

Saturday 7th February 2026

  • I’d done quite a bit of pre-farming so there were only a couple of odd items needed on the Raid Plan for today to get Lucius promoted to Gold 1 – he’s still got a way to go to catch him up with Laviscus on Diamond 1 and the rest of the Emperor’s Children characters on Diamond 2 but that’s the main focus of this week, there are only so many Boons of Slaanesh that you can farm in a day though so will be spreading my focus elsewhere around those battles – more on the wider plan at the end of this but you’ll be able to get some ideas of what I’m working on from who’s been getting the upgrades this week.

Sunday 8th February 2026

  • Largely farming upgrade items for Lucius, but we also took some time to promote everyone’s favourite Bullgryn, Kut Skoden to Bronze 1

Monday 9th February 2026

  • Continuing with the Astra Militarum theme, Thaddeus Noble to Bronze 2 was today’s main promotion news around farming more Lucius upgrades!

Tuesday 10th February 2026

  • Got a long way to go with him still, but got Nicodemus to Iron 1 – my love of Fabius Bile and his Consortium means I’ll always have a soft spot for other Apothecaries (not to mention Healers being very useful in the Survival Events and Legendary Character Release Events!)

Wednesday 11th February 2026

  • Ranked-up Lucius to Gold 2, getting there!
  • Tournament Arena is back also – loving running the Emperor’s Children crew, Lucius in particular feels like a bit of a menace to the meta crew!
Warhammer 40,000 Tacticus Image of Torurnament Arena Lucius the Eternal of the Emperors Children alongside Shiron the Noise Marine, Adamatar the Lord Kakophonist, Laviscus the Lord Exultant and Hascule the Flawless Blade taking on Dante of the Blood Angels, Ragnar of the Space Wolves, Kharn The Betrayer of the World Eaters, Mephiston and Boss Gorgotz
Kharn, Mephiston and Gulgortz have already fallen by this point, a fair trade for Adamatar and Lucius (who’s back already as Mephiston must have enjoyed his brief victory a little too much!)

Thursday 12th February 2026

  • As promised when he was unlocked, the Deathleaper is high on the agenda just for the various traits he has that work quite nicely for Legendary Character Events, ranked him up to Iron 2 today.

Friday 13th February 2026

  • Friday 13th is unlucky for some, I’ve always thought of it as a lucky one and today saw Lucius ranked-up to Gold 3 and Wrask to Iron 1 – unlikely they’ll ever get on very well but Chaos characters getting some love will always make me happy

Saturday 14th February 2026

  • Roswitha was today’s non-Lucius focus and we got her to Iron 3, there’s a couple of reasons that she’s in my planning, I’ll talk about another of them in the Future Plans section further down, but one is for the long-game as will want some extra shards for the Death Guard characters in the future and with Isabella at Gold and Vindicta at Silver there’s an obvious gap as far as getting all the goodies from the missions goes and eventually getting the Extremis Campaign unlocked too

Sunday 15th February 2026

  • Glorious day! Lucius The Eternal promoted to Diamond 1 today. Getting him and Laviscus caught up with their brothers is the next goal for them and once they’re all at Diamond 2, getting the whole set to Diamond 3 will have to follow!
  • In other news, the ‘We Are All Kin’ event started today to unlock Vynn Conglahr, the first of the Leagues of Votann Characters joining the game. I don’t have any current plans for him but as a mechanic with some summons I’ll definitely be making sure I unlock him and if I can, get him up to Epic so that if/when he does find himself in my plans there’s a little less work to do!

Reflections

  • Firstly, having the full Emperor’s Children team together feels epic!
Warhammer 40,000 Tacticus Emperors Children in Arena Lucius The Eternal, Laviscus Lord Exultant, Adamatar Lord Kakaphonist, Shiron Noise Marine, Hascule Flawless Blade squaring up ready to kill their enemies
  • The Survival Event, ‘Kindred Acquistiions’ has been and gone, was an interesting one – Leagues of Votann, Ultramarines and the other non-Astartes Imperial Factions vs Orks – I know there was quite a lot of chatter online about it – I found it quite tough to begin with but once I got in a groove with it, I did ok, wasn’t necessarily the best for the characters that I have in a decent position but the contents of the crates were all gratefully received!
  • So some reflection on the The Lucius Plan, firstly, how did we score against each track and requirement:

Alpha

Black Legion
Completed Level 7

No Bolter
Completed Level 11

Bolter
Completed Level 8

Flying
Completed Level 7

Min 4 Hits
Completed Level 8
  • In theory there were a couple of extra levels that I might have expected to complete with the ‘Minimum of 4 Hits’ team and the ‘No Bolter’ team but the Jain Zarr proved too tough for the No Bolter team and the ‘Minimum of 4 Hits’ team struggled to make those hits count against the Harlequins. With Lucius slotting into both of those teams, I’d feel a lot more confident of scoring a few more next time round!

Beta

Physical
Completed Level 6

Heavy Weapons
Completed Level 5

Unstoppable
Completed Level 7

Max 2 Hits
Completed Level 6

Piercing
Completed Level 7
  • I mentioned Barbgaunts in the last Tacticus Diary and how I hated the impact they were having on my scoring in this track – it was always going to be one of the more difficult ones for me with my bias towards Chaos characters and them not being present here at all! Lots of opportunities here if I’m thinking about the final ‘Perfection Personified’ event – this is probably where I need to focus my time with upgrades!

Gamma

No Power
Completed Level 8

Psychic
Completed Level 6

Physical
Completed Level 4

Ranged Specialists
Completed Level 4

Min 5 Hits
Completed Level 8
  • Chaos characters were back on the menu here, however, the requirements for scoring were slightly less kind to all of my Emperor’s Children. The scoring here was a bit all over the place with some decent progression on some tracks and some less good on others. Physical and Ranged Specialists requirements obviously provide the most opportunity – the Neurothrope needs to be acquired before Part 3 as he boosts both of those and the Psychic one for me!
  • Overall, I’m obviously very pleased that the plan worked as a whole, we got the points needed to unlock Lucius. There were some moments I was genuinely concerned I might not be able to do to it (or at least that I’d have to spend another £20 to try and make sure and I’d spent what I’d set aside for Tacticus otherwise and then we’d be eating into my minis budget – a budget I’ll guard with my life!)
  • There was one standout team, the No Bolter team who did a great job in Alpha against their scoring requirement but also got me quite a lot of points moving outside of the requirements in Gamma to ensure I had enough points on the board to unlock Lucius this time!
The legends that are Shiron, Adamatar, Hascule, Laviscus and Rotbone – Team No Bolter!

Future Plans

  • ‘Perfection Personified’ is over but the work is not yet done, I’ve decided I’m going to focus on the other Legendary Character Events requirements for the moment to get into a position to unlock each of the current live ones as they come round. The intention is to work in a similar way to how I did for the Lucius unlock – getting characters to a minimum of Silver with a select few aiming at a higher level and/or focusing on some characters I like and value anyway who can also support with stretching my scoring further in these events. As other Legendary Characters get added then I’ll potentially have to add more characters in and adjust priorities. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Fabius Bile to be added to the game at some point – my love for Fabius is greater than even my love for Lucius so there’d be a lot of adjusting of plans to make sure we can unlock him if that day ever comes (pretty please Snowprint!)

Uthar

Snappawrecka, Arjac, Tigurius, and Wrask

Dante

Maladus, Nicodemus,Deathleaper, and Roswitha

Trajann

Shadowsun, Exitor-Rho, Macer and Baldr

Farsight

Rotbone, Kut Skoden, Thaddeus Noble, and Sibyll

Lucius

Mataneo, Snotflogga, Boss Gulgortz, and Volk

Legendary Character Event All-Stars

Aleph-Null, Re’vas, Kariyan and Lucien

Emperor’s Children

Lucius, Shiron, Hascule, Adamatar, and Laviscus
  • That’s simplified a little as a few of these characters are useful across multiple events – which helps to identify which ones to take further than just Silver too. Then there’s the Legendary Character Event All-Stars – they’re not prompted by any of the specific events because they’re useful across all of them and likely the ones we don’t know about yet! I’ve also included an extra row for the Emperor’s Children – they’re officially part of the plan because I’m going to be putting time into them regardless and ultimately they’ll find their way into lots of teams due to being amongst my strongest characters.

Upgrade Item of the Week

This week’s Upgrade Item is the: Mark of Chaos Undivided

I’m giving a lot of thought currently to whether Volk should be on the plan above to get him to Diamond – I kind of enjoyed having him in with the Emperor’s Children before I had the full set and it might be nice to have him as an option to rotate in for Guild Raids and Tournament Arena – so I was looking at what the upgrades might look like to get there and he’s currently on the plan, so the Mark of Chaos Undivided feels appropriate!

That’s this week’s bumper diary over and done with, next week’s will be cover 16th February – 22nd and will be up on the 23rd February, see you then!

I’m currently using the Tacticus Planner and the Tacticus Codex to help with my event planning and my Raiding plan – you can see a bit more about them in my Getting Started with Tacticus post.
