Getting Started With Tacticus: A Beginner’s Guide for other Beginners

I’ve quite recently gotten into Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus from Snowprint Studios. A quick look at the picture below might provide the best possible answer to the question of “Sure, but why now?”

So, with the Emperor’s Children joining the game through events currently, it seemed like the perfect time to jump in! I thought it’d be handy to share a couple of tips or signpost to a couple of resources to help anybody else that’s new and jumping into this as there are some great content creators and a really supportive community around this game.

Join the Discord
There’s a dedicated Discord server for Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus and it’s definitely worth having a look at! There are lots of great tips in here and a community that’s always keen to help and answer any questions you may have. You’ll also find links to guides from great content creators and importantly a repository of all the active promo codes – these are great to give you a leg-up with the in-game resources when you’re getting started.

You can join the Discord here

Freeload in a Good Guild
Okay, so that is ever-so-slightly tongue-in-cheek and I promise I’ll explain! Once you’ve levelled up to Power Level 5, you’re able to join a Guild. My suggestion would be to look for an Open Guild, one that you’ll be able to join right away with a decent number of members and a decent spread of power level. When you’re getting started you’ll not be able to contribute as much to Guild Raids or the Guild War (you need to reach Level 20 to contribute to the Guild War anyway) but you’ll benefit from playing your part all the same and getting the bonuses based on the overall success of your guild. The other great thing about Guilds is they allow you to share some of the resources you need to upgrade your characters. As your characters grow in power you’ll be able to contribute more and more to the aforementioned Guild Raids and Guild Wars and so, long-term, it’s definitely not freeloading but initially it’s a real leg-up in the world of Tacticus. So I guess really, what I’m saying is, thank you to the guild I joined – Da Vandalz

Lucius The Eternal

Make Use of the Tacticus Wiki
I found this really useful for all manner of things including understanding a bit about certain game modes, finding out what upgrades I’ll need at future levels for a character (handy when you’re waiting on orbs to Ascend them to get access to the next one but have energy and time to farm for the upgrades ahead of that for example. The Tacticus Planner below is really useful for automating the to-do list but I found this particularly useful for helping to understand what’s on there and why!

You can access the wiki here

Tacticus Planner
Ok, this one is massive, at least it has been for me! The Tacticus Planner web app is an absolute life saver. There’s so much to get your head round when you’re new and this might be best for once you’ve got the basics sussed (although there’s lots of guidance on there so someone smarter than me can probably make great use of this early on). You can set goals on here – whether that’s upgrading equipment or collecting shards and it takes your goals and builds out a plan for your Daily Raids that you can follow. You can plan out teams for the Legendary Character Release Events such as the one for Lucius, which is where I’ve been using it – to try and work out who do I have that will work best in that event when it returns and how do I get them in fighting shape!

You can access the Tacticus Planner here.

Pop My Referral Code In
This’ll help you get some extra Blackstone and as a happy by-product also helps me to do the same as a reward for referring you and for when you hit some key progression milestones too. My referral code is as below:

Play Tacticus and share rewards with me by using my referral code: ran-27-phi

You just need to tap the ‘cog’ icon on the Home screen and then ‘Refer a Friend’ where you can enter the code.

Hopefully this post provides some useful sign-posting for you. There’s a few of these that I certainly wish I found a little earlier! I’m really enjoying Tacticus at the moment around my hobby time (and real life!) so expect some more content on this in the future! Let me know in the comments if there’s anything specific you’d like to see!

  1. […] With the current Honour The Prince event live to unlock the Lord Kakophonist, Adamatar, I’ve fallen on an old faithful to help me meet the requirements on some of the missions. I stumbled upon this myself and then realised there’s a lot of people sharing missions like this on the Discord for example. So I can’t pretend to be the discoverer of this wonderful level and it’s usefulness in the wider context but it was a revelation to me. Before I move on, you can avoid my prior ignorance on a lot of stuff by checking out my guide here to Getting Started with Tacticus. […]
